PHOTOGRAPHY
One of the many exciting things that expecting parents get to plan for is a newborn photo session where we will document all of their adorable features that you’ve waited months to finally see in person! But what is the best location for you lifestyle newborn pictures? As a Dallas family and newborn photographer, I get this question a lot! There are three main types of locations for newborn photos–in a photography studio, outdoors, or at home. Each one is a great option, and the decision comes down to personal preference! In this post I will talk about why you might want to schedule in-home or outdoor newborn photos.
In-Home Newborn Photos
Newborn photos at home are so popular for a reason! You have put so much love into designing the perfect nursery for your little one, so why would you not want to have keepsake photos of your precious baby in the special space you made just for them? Even if you don’t want to take photos in the nursery, it is so special to look back on pictures of your newborn in the place where you first brought them home. Not to mention, in-home newborn sessions can be easier, especially on new moms, since you won’t have to pack up baby and make a trip to your photo shoot location. You may be leaning towards taking newborn photos at home but worry that your home is not decorated perfectly enough. But the truth is, all I need to create beautiful photos in your home is light from a window and at least one spot that is either beautiful or simple, even just a plain white wall! It is best if the spaces we will be using for photos are mostly tidy, but your home certainly does not need to be spotless, and we can easily move away a little extra clutter or baby gear if need be. No need to deep clean before your session!
Outdoor Newborn Photos
Outdoor newborn photos are some of my favorites! I take a family-centered, lifestyle approach to newborn photography, which means that I focus on capturing connection between all of the family members, rather than photographing the baby alone in precise poses. My style lends itself well to using outdoor locations, just like my family sessions with older kids. I find the timeless beauty of nature a perfect complement to the beauty of bringing new life into this world, and as long as the weather is mild enough for your tiny baby, I always love getting to photograph a family with their newest addition outside! Some families may prefer their newborn session to take place completely outdoors, and many opt to combine traditional indoor photos with outdoor portraits. For example, we may start your session in your baby’s nursery and then take more photos at the park down the street, or in your backyard, like the sweet family below!
Whatever your preferences, I would be happy to create the newborn photoshoot you’ve been dreaming about and walk you through all the details that will make it a stress-free experience for you and your growing family.
